33 stories by John Duda, 24 on the Vietnam war and the rest on life in Brooklyn and the northeast of the United States. The Vietnam stories, about half of the book, are told from the point of view of the ordinary grunt, while the peace-time stories result from his observation of society around him. They are told with warmth and humanity but do not pull any punches about the savagery and the hardships that surround us.
