Arbee’s Wisdom: How the United Nations Works is a series of eight short satirical stories on how a long-term senior official in the United Nations handles the day-to-day problems of diplomacy. Written by Steve Whitehouse, who worked as an information officer in the United Nations for 30 years, the stories cover how to deal with the Press, how to write reports with results-based budgets, reports that would spawn even more reports and secure an extension of one's contract, how to deal with the “near impossibility” of reforming the United Nations bureaucracy, how two dogs on heat illustrate the diplomatic problems in Cyprus, and so on.
